Portfolio Development Class

Please note this class has been renamed and was formerly called the Color Photography Learning Group. It has been expanded to include color and black-and-white photography.

The goal of this ongoing group is to grow your color photography skills by:

• Helping you build a portfolio of your best work

• Reviewing and adding new work to that portfolio

• Identifying and learning the skills you need to keep making better photos

• Improving the editing/processing of your photos

This “full circle” approach will allow me to lead you through every step of the color photography process, from start to finish, with continued instruction and development.

A typical session may include helping you select the best photos from a recent trip, evaluating edits, focusing on problem areas that will benefit from growth, refining the selection of your best photographs, troubleshooting your problem areas, time for individual questions, and more.

Each session will meet for two hours, allowing approximately 8 to10 minutes of individualized instruction for each student during the session. I will review your work before each session to prepare individualized recommendations and feedback.

The group will include up to twelve students. Learning as a group is invaluable because you can see how other photographers work through challenges, and receive feedback and evaluation from the group.

We will meet on the second Tuesday of each month from 7pm to 9pm CT. From time to time, sessions may be delayed a month to accommodate my travel commitments. Expect to meet 8 to 10 times in a calendar year, with a break in late September and most of October for fall color.

Expectations

Joining the group requires an initial commitment to six consecutive sessions, for a total fee of $450. After the initial six sessions, you can continue with the group by purchasing additional sessions in blocks of four sessions for $260 per block (which equals $65 per session).

Participation is key, and you will need to send me new files TWO WEEKS prior to each session date. This can include new photos and photos you’ve been working on improving. If you send your files late, I may not be able to work them into the session.

Software

Editing / Processing will be done with your preference of Lightroom or Photoshop.

Schedule

Your tuition will be applied to consecutive sessions. If I need to reschedule a session, your tuition will apply to the next scheduled session. For example, if we meet in January, February, April, May, June, and July, but not March because of rescheduling, your tuition for six sessions will be applied to January, February, April, May, June, and July.

If you need to miss a date, your tuition will still apply to the missed session. Tuition is applied to consecutive sessions regardless of your live attendance. Each session is recorded for playback, so you will still be able to attend virtually.
